In the compact car segment, the 2018 Nissan Sentra and the 2018 Toyota Corolla are both well-known options with many similarities. However, take a closer look and you’ll see the Sentra offers several features the Corolla can’t quite match.
When you’re comparing two vehicles with otherwise similar specifications, the one that’s priced lower is going to have a major advantage. The base model of the Nissan Sentra, the Sentra S with a six-speed manual transmission, has a manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of just $16,990. Compare that with the 2018 Toyota Corolla. Its base model has an MSRP of $18,600, more than $1,700 more than the Sentra. When you add taxes and fees, the Nissan Sentra will be much kinder on your wallet.
Cargo and passenger space
Space is at a premium in compact cars, so it’s important to choose one that gives you enough room for both seating and cargo. Here, the Sentra comes out ahead with 39.4 inches of front-row head room and 42.5 inches of front row leg room, compared to just 38.3 inches and 42.3 inches for the Corolla. The Sentra also features a superior 15.1 cubic feet of trunk space, while the Corolla only offers 13 cubic feet.
The base engine options for the Sentra and Corolla are fairly similar, but what if you’re looking for a deluxe trim with a more powerful engine? Fortunately, the Sentra’s SR Turbo and NISMO® trims offer a 1.6-liter Direct Engine Gasoline turbocharged engine that gets 188 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque. The Corolla doesn’t offer a higher-performance engine for its upper-level trims — the base engine with 132 horsepower and 128 lb-ft of torque is all you’ll get, even on the more expensive trims.
When you compare pricing, space, and engine options, the 2018 Nissan Sentra beats the Toyota Corolla in every category. To learn more about the Nissan Sentra’s advantages, swing by Bates Nissan and we’ll be happy to help you schedule a test drive.
