Bates Nissan is proud to serve Temple, TX, a popular destination for travelers in the Lone Star State! From the lovely communities to our rich history, there’s no reason not to love Temple!
It’s a relatively young city, having been established as a railroad town in 1881 by the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railroad, and named after Bernard Moore Temple, a civil engineer who worked for the company. But, though it was officially known as Temple, the more common name for the city was “Tanglefoot” in honor of its classic, “Wild West” persona, replete with saloons, tent cities, and a whole cast of ruffians. The next year, the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad was built through Temple, and the city’s upward path toward development and betterment commenced. Today, Temple still recognizes its railroad-origins with the always-interesting Temple Railroad and Heritage Museum (always worth a visit!).
Today, there are thousands of reasons to visit Temple, TX. Temple is home to more than 66,000 people and growing fast. For its size, the town accommodates a surprisingly high number of arts and retail amenities, and is well-known for its extensive medical community, thanks to the Scott & White Memorial Hospital.
Temple is a part of the Texas Brazos Trail Region, which grants residents and visitors alike access to numerous beautiful state parks and a variety of local street fairs, festivals, and events. If you’re more of an indoors-y person, Temple is home to many delightful and interesting museums and galleries, like the Czech Heritage Museum and Genealogy Center and The Little & Farquhar Science Museum, as well as not just a few shopping and entertainment centers.
There’s never a shortage of things to do in Temple. From visiting the many museums and art exhibits, shopping at antiques and specialty shops to enjoying the unique local food and exploring some of the most beautiful country in the state, there’s always something to fill your days and fulfill your soul (or your appetite!)
Some of our favorite activities include diving into Temple Lake Park, dancing the night away at In The Mood Ballroom, watching history come to life at The Battle of Temple Junction, catching a bird’s eye view of the landscape at Wings Over Texas, and watching the latest movie on the big screen at Temple IMAX. Whatever you decide to do, we hope we can help you get around more easily with one of our trusty vehicles at Bates Nissan!
