Learn About Nissan's Red Thumb Movement

Nissan has joined the fight to END texting while driving!

Nissan Red Thumb Movement
Too many people get hurt or lose their lives every year because we simply fail to put our phones down while behind the wheel. People continue to value a text message over their own life and the lives of others. This has to end.

Join Nissan by making the pledge to put your phone down while driving. Think of a creative way to make your thumb red to remind yourself to keep your hands on the wheel and eyes on the road at all times. Do not pick up that phone. Resist the urge to read that text message. It's easy! You can show your support in so many different ways – wear a red thumb band, paint your thumb nail, apply a sticker to your thumb – anything that will make you think "STOP!" as you reach for your phone! More importantly, spread the message and encourage others to join you, too!
You might be wondering... How did the Red Thumb Movement begin? All it took was one individual. Steve Babcock was inspired to start the movement because of his daughter. She would always tie a piece of yarn around her finger to remind her of something. Steve got inspired and decided to paint his thumbnail red to remind himself to put his phone down while driving. “As silly as it sounds, it totally worked,” said Steve Babcock, Founder of Red Thumb Reminder. All it took was one person and the power of sharing ideas.

So you can help, too. Share pictures of your Red Thumb and use the hashtag "#RedThumb" on social media to show your support! Display your pictures on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, anywhere! Get the word out and ask others to join you. Millions already have!
Texting While Driving Statistics

In 2011, at least 23% of auto collisions involved cell phones… That’s 1.3 million crashes resulting in about 500,000 injuries and 6,000 deaths each year.
5 seconds is the minimal amount of time your attention is taken away from the road when you are texting and driving… If you are driving at 55 mph, this equals driving 100 yards—the length of a football field—without looking at the road.
Teens who text while driving spend 10% of the time outside of their lane.
